ALBUMREVIEW : BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB - BEAT THE DEVIL'S TATOO

Normally an album by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is some kind of guarantee that the press adores it but with their 5th album, it seems the storm is quite over.
That’s what usually happens with pressdarlings, one day hyped and then rejected.
Is “Beat the devil’s tattoo” so bad then?
At the contrary I think, it’s just a cd without surprises as the raw sound we knew from the beginning belongs to the past and now you get a perfect rockalbum.
Read the word again please, rockalbum cos that’s what matters.
Rock has become too much a sort of definition of everything that isn’t enough alternative to be described otherwise.
Rock was never supposed to be bland, rock was never supposed to be seen as average and that’s what Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have understood even if I’m aware that by times (especially the ballads) the sound is a bit too polished. But still important enough….
