ALBUMREVIEWS : MICHAEL J SHEEHY AND THE HIRED MOURNERS With these hands (Glitterhouse Records)

Does anyone remember Dream City Film Club? Judging on their sales I guess not many people will jump up and say "yes!" cos DCFC were loved by John Peel and some indieloners but for the rest no one cared.
Anyway, after the fall of this great band, Michael J Sheehy went solo and yet again, we can't speak of a triumph but this doesn't mean the man can't make music, at the contrary : he must be one of the most underrated artist of this globe!
"With these hands" is a conceptalbum that tells the sad story of a boxer named Francis Delaney. Delaney did everything for the sport and for the money, even going down.
I don't care about boxers but it's evident that Michael choose him cos he had a very black life in where all the misery points in life met each other.
Michael creates, just like with Dream City Film Club, a sort of film noir-music that hangs between Johnny Cash and Nick Cave. A singer-songwriter, normally I hate that, with balls.
